I love how Gabriella wasn't boy-crazy. She has dreams and priorities and didn't make her life all about a guy. Her biggest issue is something she mentioned throughout the film. She is "good at goodbyes, " She has had experiences of letting go for most of her life so that's all she knows. Plus the absence of her father?

what i loved about gabriella was that she wasn't a pick-me girl. yes, she could be selfish, but she choose her education and future over a relationship. for a disney channel character, that was very refreshing.

Gabriella didn't want to leave, there's a whole argument between her and Taylor convincing her TO LEAVE. Gabriella wanted to stay another year with everyone, but when Troy found out he wanted her to go to Stanford. Gabriella's main thing was that she never got to make long lasting friendships cause she was always moving so when she finally was able to stay at East High she was sad to leave again.

They give me showmance vibes. Like when they are singing and performing together they really get along, have great chemistry and feel connected to each other. The moment real life starts, it gets difficult for them because they don’t really know how to communicate with each other, especially when it comes to bigger life decisions. I do think Troy tries harder than Gabriella with the relationship - planning dates, doing romantic gestures, choosing a close college etc. but in the end G is obviously just not that invested in him. She loves singing with him, but she doesn’t love him.

You got me looking at their WHOLE relationship in a different lens, Troy was IN LOVE with Gabriella, while Gabriella just loved Troy. Just look at their very first scene in the first film. They are about to kiss on New Years Day, Gabriella pulls away to go to her mom, Troy has to go out his way to ask for her number, while Troy is still trying to talk to her, Gabriella leaves. She did NOT have to leave😅 she said, "that's enough social interaction for me!" He was entranced by her because she was something different. She was very observant in that first half of the movie, with the, "why are you whispering?" scene after class, and saying she isn't gonna sign up for any club but would see the show if Troy did. She wasn't privy to how the school works, but was tryna understand why they make sure a big deal out of everything, to her it was just singing

Gabriella's attachment for Troy being far less than his attachment for her does make sense. Troy's first impression of her was that she was someone different, she came to his school and completely changed his entire worldview. He couldn't be just the basketball guy anymore, she was the first person who truly made him feel self in being his complete self. Gabriella is just so kind and there for him to open up. He was a good person for her to have, but it doesn't go as deep as his love for her, he completely changed as a person with her.

I feel like a big part of Gabriella's character for me is that she's a kid who's moved so many times that I feel like even though she's made these connections even though she really likes Troy she was always ready and willing to cut ties with anyone if it wasn't going well because she's done it so many times it's easy for her to compartmentalize. And that is somewhat of a flaw but I really admire that she has the self confidence to not take any shit from anybody. She is very secure in who she is, what she wants, and how she should be treated. I think it's admirable but I question the longevity their relationship could have if she never bothers to actually fight for it. For a couple that's essentially broken up 3 times in 2 years I don't know

I Loved Gabriella, I loved Sharpay but I also really adored her and her willingness to walk away. Gabriella always did what was best for her and I respect her for that.

I’m with you on how Gabriella stood up to Sharpay in HSM2. It was very satisfying. I know that there was a huge chance that Troy and Gabriella would grow apart or break up because they were in high school, but it really pisses me off that Disney decided to put them in couples therapy after all these years. Even if there was a moral we needed to learn, the HSM series was nothing more than a cash grab. It would’ve been fine breaking them up or ending up together, or having them break up and then meet again years later. Any of those scenarios would allow the audience to move on. But Disney just HAD to milk it…sorry about that rant that’s just how I feel. But you made great points.
