Flash boiling superheated distilled water

Needs condensation nuclei to start a boil. A fork will do the trick.

Water was superheated, meaning the water was heated beyond it's boiling point without boiling. When an object touches a superheated water it immediately will boil and evaporate, this is very dangerous since the water is beyond it's boiling point and it can cause serious burns.

I just had a similar experience where I was making a large mug of tea, but I wanted to heat up the water first in a microwave and I guess it got so hot part of the water immediately flashed causing a small explosion ejecting most of the water outside of the mug

this just happened to my soup when i went to stir it. so scary lmao
