In this video we discuss some of the major types of angles and how they are classified. We go through examples of each of the types of angles and their measurements

Transcript/notes
There are several important different types of angles to understand, as understanding these types of angles can help to find angle measurements.

Acute
An acute angle is an angle that’s measurement is between 0 and 90 degrees.

Right angle
A right angle is an angle that measures 90 degrees, and a little box is drawn at the vertex to note a right angle.

Obtuse
An obtuse angle is an angle that’s measurement is between 90 degrees and 180 degrees.

Straight
A straight angle is an angle that measures 180 degrees, so it is a straight line.

Adjacent
Adjacent angles are 2 angles that share a common vertex and side. In this diagram, angle RSP and angle PST are adjacent angles, as they have a common vertex and side.

Supplementary angles
Supplementary angles are 2 angles that add to 180 degrees. In this diagram angle MPL and angle LPO are supplementary angles

Complementary
Complementary angles are 2 angles that add to 90 degrees, as you see in this example.

Vertical
Vertical angles are angles that are opposite each other when 2 lines cross, and vertical angles have the same measurement. In this diagram, angle VQT and angle WQX are vertical angles and angle WQV and angle XQT are vertical angles. We often put this little arc to signify that the angles have the same measurement, and we could use an arc with a tick mark to signify that the other set of angles have the same measurement as one another.
