From (1) ; Y = 7 - 2X
Substituting Y in (2)
2(7 - 2X) + X = 8
14 - 4X + X = 8
14 - 3X = 8
3X = 14 - 8
3X = 6
*X = 2*
Substituting X in (1);
2(2) + Y = 7
4 + Y = 7
*Y= 3*

X + Y => 2 + 3 = 5
