Ubuntu 21.10 has been released, but it lacks the excellent implantation that has been seen in the past. Today I look at the several problems I experienced with getting Ubuntu working.

30+ year Net/Sys Admin here. I find Ubuntu 14.04 was the last version that "I would trust", was tested-fully and worked-well. It was 16.04+ where the problems began. Ubuntu 16.04 arrived severely untested and full of bugs. No way in hell could I use it on a server!!!! Each version after 14.04 has been the same way. It's like they took a page from Microsoft and let the end-user be the Beta Tester. I blame all of this on Canonical!!! Since 16.04, they have taken a knife to Ubuntu and gutted it like a fish. Forcing features and business practices no-one wanted (whether FOSS legal or not). And... Forcing out Good Developers!!!

Remember when Ubuntu had their own DE, Pepperidge Farm remembers

I've never liked Ubuntu, but there are some good distros built on their repos. Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu are good. Ubuntu-Cinnamon Remix is good, too. PopOS is great. Linux Mint is Excellent.

Me personally I've always had good luck with LTS Ubuntu 20.04 been fine. I try other distributions but generally end up back in the Gnome version. I've never tried a x.10 version I looks like I won't any time soon LOL.

I would never recommend a nine month release of an Ubuntu variation for a new user. If you're going to start out with Ubuntu, you have to start out with an LTS release at best.

I'd rather use Debian 11 than Ubuntu but I'll stick to Manjaro.

Ubuntu is no longer Canonical's priority....maybe it is...and it is!!! 16.04 with unity was very good!!! these days my desktop ubuntu 20.04 has updated and I can't copy anything to the desktop anymore...I had to disable the gnome extension and use an old one...why do they do that?? the gnome people??? what a stupid thing!!! the software store is already buggy to several versions, no one uses this central anymore, I use synaptic and that's it! luckily ubuntu still meets my needs....but i get more and more annoyed with these decisions SNAP i no use anytimes.

Makes me wonder if it will be the right time to switch from Mint 20.3 to LMDE 5.

If Canonical keeps pushing snaps and rushing releases, I think some Ubuntu based distributions will eventually be almost forced to base on Debian instead. I'm going to give Linux Mint Debian Edition a try when version 5 releases, to see how easy/hard it is to use in comparison.

Ubuntu GNOME LTS on my physical hardware works flawlessly for me.
I even installed it on another potato laptop without any issues after use.
In fact I have issues with other distros like Mint xfce4 & cinnamon (both freeze constantly on boot and is laggy) and Zorin OS (won't even make a bootable USB).
I don't see what the issue is with Ubuntu. But that's the thing, a popular distro has its fanbase and its minority of haters.
If you want to review Ubuntu, don't do it on a VM or on a beta-esque version. That's just begging for something bad to happen

I installed Ubuntu Budgie 21.10 in my VB, and one of the first things it did during updating was to uninstall the repo version of Firefox, and install from Snap, without telling me.

i ran a pretty decent variety of distros when i decided to jump into linux.. starting with gentoo lol. then came Ubuntu 16, i hated Gnome for some reason..., then some BSD's, Anti-X, Arch/i3wm, Kali/Gnome, Parrot OS/Mate, some Debian i cant recall with KDE/Plasma that i got looking really nice, but just wasn't quite stable...

finally, after doing a pure simple Debian/Mate on my laptop that i still use, and after much experimentation and deciding what i actually want/need from linux...

a custom Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, excised of all purple, dark/Yaru, no extensions, no animations, with KDE dark/Breeze components installed for Kate+Konsole (i just love Kate, ok), and this thing is so Clean and so Smooth, i don't think I'll ever look back.

i don't know what this man's problem is with Ubuntu, but honestly, if you're wanting a rock solid distro get yourself some Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and get to work.

I used Ubuntu from 5.10 up until 17.10. After they switched to Gnome I've been using Manjaro for the most part.

My system runs Ubuntu 21.10 flawlessly, what type of hardware config do you have that Ubuntu 22.10 did not run well on?

I understand and agree with the stance on snaps. However, aren’t the odd (15, 17, 19, 21) Ubuntu releases supposed to be broken? The way I understood it, they’re basically previews/work in progress versions of the upcoming even numbered LTS (ie 21 is just 22 before it’s ready). Either way nobody can argue that Ubuntu is going down hill :’(

I couldn't even get Kubuntu 21.10 to boot from a USB. Tried USB disk creator and baletcher.

Ubuntu is a commodity and product now. It is beholden to Canonical's sponsors and not any community members.

I use Linux Mint Cinnamon. It pleases me. But I worry that as Ubuntu fades, how long before other distros are effected?

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has been fine for me. I had issues with open source drivers for Bumblebee, but Ubuntu sorted out the Xorg during install. That alone saved me a bucket of time and frustration.

I love your passion for Linux! I hope Mint doesn't follow suit!
