"WHAT"
"Glyph of warding costs 200 gold."

"Whenever *anyone* walks through the door? You better teleport out of that room when you're done, or else you trigger your own trap

Just keep in mind, that glorious facial hair isn't going to stop you getting punched in the face for doing this.

"The thousands of magic missiles hit the helmed horror for a grand total of 0 damage"

I fixed your title.

"When as a BBEG, you absolutely, positively, need to kill that one pesky adventuring party and you have a bunch of mages on hand"

It's all fun and games until the second adventurer casts Counterspell on your Counterspell.

There's no reason to use 2nd level magic missiles here. 3rd level would also work and would do more damage meaning they would allow you to save money by casting fewer glyphs of warding. Glyphs also cost the same amount regardless of slot level, so you should do this with the highest level you can cast in order to do more damage per glyph and therefore save more money. You should also only cast enough so that the average damage is about twice the enemy's expected hit points, so you can still be pretty sure they'll die without totally bankrupting your entire party from all the incense and powdered diamond you have to buy.

And then your DM retcons the world and gives the BBEG a Helmed Horror that they send into every room because they're REALLY paranoid

Meanwhile me with my brooch of shielding

I think I did this right, but the whole thing would have about 64 casts of Magic Missile, which would be 200 actual missiles, and cost 12, 800 gold.

“Whenever anyone enters the room”. And this is why you have a trap mule, or perhaps a summon walking in front of the party. Let them eat all the magic missiles.

This guy is both simultaneously a DM’s nightmare and most fun player.

Unless you wanna risk wasting all that gold, you need to upcast the glyph of warding to store a higher level Counterspell, or it can fail against s creature casting Shield with a slot of 4th level or higher, which one might do in a very specific situation of being out of lower level spell slots, or being incredibly paranoid because somebody had already counterspelled their Shield before
