IIS 7.5 Architecture and components (part 1)

Part one of a three part series aimed at explaining the main components of the IIS 7.5 web-server and how the interact to execute HTTP requests for applications hosted on the server. In this series I look at all the IIS components and services and what their specific role inside the web-server is.

Hello Bryan S, basically IIS on Windows 7 is IIS 7.5, which is equivalent to IIS 7.5 on Windows 2008 R2. Think of it this way:
IIS 7: Windows Vista and Windows 2008
IIS 7.5: Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2

As for the risks, it depends how you configure the server. By default, it is pretty secure and it will only serve static stuff, so this is not a vector of malware infection if you are referring to this.

Excellent video Paul. I would appreciated more information on how the W3 Service loads the web site/service app pools (or W3WP processes) as well as how a web request gets forwarded to a particular app pool.
