He knew the kidnappers were going to kill his son anyway, so he knew the only way to get him back alive was to put a huge bounty on their heads. Very impactful scene that's acted well and directed brilliantly

The definition of a powerhouse movie with powerhouse performances! Everyone in this film brought their A Game. Senise, Gibson, Russo, Lindo, even a young Liev Schrieber. A great film and an awesome scene!

It was a brilliant move by Tom, he knew if he gave the kidnappers the money he would not have got Sean back alive.

This was a really smart plan under the right circumstances (dealing with an unorganized group of kidnappers). The objective was to cause rifts between the kidnappers to try and get them to betray each other.

I never scene this movie until I saw a clip of it on Facebook. I watched it and this scene shocked me. Could you imagine this kind of situation said on live television these days for any child that is missing or kidnapped? I imagine many more child cases would be solved and closed while children taken by drug dealers, sex traffickers or criminals become targets by even those close to them. Such an iconic moment. Thanks for uploading.

Certainly the correct decision. Tom knew he wouldn't get his son back if he paid the ransom, so change up the cards. Give lots of people incentive to track down Gary Sinise.
