Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) of the Thyroid Gland

A thyroid nodule is an unusual growth (lump) of thyroid cells in the thyroid gland. A fine needle aspiration (FNA) may be called for when a doctor feels an abnormal lump or when imaging scans show the presence of abnormalities. A FNA uses a thin needle several inches long and a syringe to extract cells, tissue and fluids. This goes through the procedure and what to expect after the test.
