I had a IT help desk job phone interview and I thought it would be a great idea to record it. Since I am graduating I've had to go through a good amount of IT phone interviews and they are usually the same. The hard part is the second round of interviews where you have to talk to the manager.

It's stressful to even listen to someone else's interview lol. Good job, man. I'm glad you got another role

People who want to get into IT need to see videos like this one. College and youtube can be misleading on how you get into the industry. A degree or Certification doesn’t bypass the entry level point and getting that opportunity isn’t easy with HR that doesn’t always understand the job. Good luck I just started my entry level job and I’m 44 lol

I remember starting in IT. Nervous as hell, the field of IT is so wide that you need many years to learn the skills. So obviously it‘s hard.
But if you get a job, use it to learn, always ask questions on everything. Be interested and curious, always seeks to learn more, and you will have a great career.

Bro just got an IT helpdesk job after doing 2 interviews with little to no experience in the field. And I got an offer made by the second interviewer, they offered me almost 70k a year, im so happy. Went from making 24 an hour to 33.

This guy is a freaking GEM! First of all, he absolutely nailed this interview, and the fact that he even put this out there was tremendous. Bravo!

Tip for yall! If they ask if you have a question, ALWAYS ask a question, not only about the hours or something, but mainly about the company as general. Ask about what they do, ask for more clarification, etc. it shows Initiative and that you really are interested in the position.

And dont forget about the thank you email!

What they don’t tell you is that HR is the preliminary screening and the follow up interview with the hiring manager is the bread and butter of the hiring process.

Dude you’re so good at speaking. I just had my phone interview the other day and sounded like a nervous wreck.

All of this time, effort, studying, stress, rejection, and experience for a low paying level 1 help desk job. They really need to bump up the pay for jobs like these for what employers are expecting..

If your new to IT don’t waist your time moving from IT help desk to other positions. Take certificates as soon as possible because once two years pass in IT help desk pass you’ll realize that you need to go back and do certifications for SYS admin or network admin or even cybersecurity if your into it. Everything in help desk positions can be learned easy and online as well if you need to but your advanced problems in this position will be escalated to a sys admin that works above you and he will have the knowledge always and you will go back to fixing beginner problems. Do certificates as your working in help desk asap and focus more on certification then your current job.
I wish I can go back in time !

Great example on how to steer through an initial IT interview.
In my experience, this part of the interview can be the easiest. HR is looking for someone with some skill but more precisely, someone with a good attitude and capable of being able to speak with people.
The second round of interviews are definitely more difficult. Speaking with individuals from the IT dept. of a company who will be asking you more exact experience questions. Troubleshooting, definitions, how-to's and other hardware / software questions can either make or break your interview at that point.
Keep at it and do your best!
