How to Clean Porcelain Sink | What Cleaned This Old Sink the Best!!

How to clean a porcelain sink? This is a white porcelain sink and it's pretty old. It had stains (looks like rust), black marks (kitchen sink scratches) and more! It's dazzling white now!! I used a toothbrush along the edge of the sink along the stainless steel.

I tried to clean this porcelain sink with cleaning products, including SOS pads, Barkeeper's Friend liquid, CRL and more. I recommend that you get a faucet with a sprayer because it makes it SO MUCH EASIER to clean and rinse your sink out. I can't stand when there's a residue left behind.

Buy Magic Eraser Here (better prices than I can find at my grocery store)

We have found the following methods to work on our old (1940) porcelain sinks. For iron we use Bar Keepers friend. Super easy no hard scrubbing and it’s cheap. Magic eraser also works but a bit more costly. For stubborn stains we lightly dampen paper towels with bleach, lay them on the stained areas overnight. This always gets it back to brilliant white! Great video thanks for sharing!

It really works! I paused the video and went to the kitchen immediately. I’m shocked at how effective the magic eraser is. Thank you!

I read do NOT use steal wool SOS pads after I tired to clean a spot in my sink and made a bigger spot. I see this worked for you maybe my sink is older and uses a different coating. Mine is 41 years old. Kohler makes a cleaner for this type of sink

I’ve always used SOS Pads and Comet along with handy dandy toothbrushes and old fashioned elbow grease for cleaning sinks and bathtubs.

Steel wool would seem to be a very aggressive abrasive to use on a porcelain surface. The surface does look nice after you completed the cleaning. How has it held up since a year ago or so since you posted this video? have the stains returned, especially the rust spots? did you consider re-glazing the surface?

CLR has never worked for me. But magic eraser works wonders.

Thank you. Also, I shoot so I clean guns constantly and they made a hard bristle brass brush shaped like a tooth brush. Might work? And try naval jelly for the rust. Very benign.

By far the easiest way to clean this is by using household laundry bleach. I just place a paper towel in the bottom of the sink, pour a tablespoon or so of bleach straight from the bottle onto the paper towel and then gently wipe it around. You should be very careful not to get the bleach on any clothes or towels as it will bleach spot materials. It works almost instantly. So to finish, I just gently but thoroughly rinse the sink to avoid ANY splashing so it doesn't get on my clothes. Thoroughly but gently rinse out the paper towel with water and then throw it in the trash. It is far easier and works far better than any other chemicals, pads, etc.

Wow thank you for making this video! I have the same sink with rust stains & was thinking we might need to replace it. Definitely going to buy a magic eraser & try that. I've heard great things about those.

My children thought I was crazy for saving their worn out toothbrushes, till they saw what I was using them for. I also use them when washing the car to get the cracks and crevasses around door handles, mirrors, badges, etc.

Thank you. I'll get started on this tomorrow. Now the test for me is to have the same success with my similar sink and hope my wife suddenly decides we don't need to replace it! I really don't want to do that...and deal with all the rest of the mess that involves.
