What's Up for December 2015

These monthly uploads are always a treat. I'll be looking for Mars in the upcoming days - they forecast is for clear skies and here, in rural Vermont, the skies are very, very clear.

Next May, when Mars in much closer, I hope I'll be able to get a clear look at all the features people are talking about: giant rats, Egyptian monuments, race tracks, shopping malls, and, of course, Matt Damon! :)

I am looking forward to once again observing Mars. I see it in the dawn sky when I look to find comet C/2013 US10 (Catalina). I follow the line of planets, Jupiter, Mars, and Venus to the comet.

Does this mean that Earth passes Mars at its closest approach next year?

Ten times bigger makes sense to me. It is ten times (10x) the size of something else.
But, ten times smaller makes no sense, it should be 1/10th the size (which you state later: the difference as a fraction).
If thing A was ten times thing B, it would always be bigger.
Ten times anything will not make it smaller.
