Ardex feather finish is expensive but it’s worth every penny. One small bag will go farther than a larger bag of the cheaper stuff. It’s the best floor patch you can get. Uzin is also top notch

Do you need sub flooring for the basement installation or you can directly glue the vinyl flack to the cement floor?. What about moisture?

Hey Joe, lots of good info here, thanks for these. I am not well schooled in drill bit sizes and corresponding screws. I am laying LVP in my basement. Floor is completely level but it is cement. So I do have a hammer drill and I am completely comfortable with using it. You mentioned 3/16 drill bit but I wasn’t sure about the size and length of screw to use. I have a lot of drill bits….again comfortable with that but screw size for that certainly would be appreciated.

I feel it's important to still wear a respirator. Concrete dust is no joke

Henry’s 555 self leveling. Mix a little thinner that the directions, pour it in the low spots, coax it around, it self levels, done. Or do the whole room for best results. Grind down any really high humps first.

Should I be checking level along the direction of the floor for installation over plywood? Will the planks be over to accommodate smooth changes in height <1/4” perpendicular to the plank direction? I am sanding the plywood floor flat at the seams so that there are no steps

My installers just installed glue-down vinyl plank right on to the slap without filling in the dips. The floor looks wavy. Is there any way to fix that at this point?

Why not use a self leveling something or other?

Just so no one ever makes the mistake I did: Always use a vac attachment for floor grinding. Without a vac attachment, you’ll spend hours vacuuming fine dust off of everything, everywhere. It’s a nightmare. 😢

What do you recommend for removing adhesive stuck to the concrete? The adhesive I'm dealing with was used to install vinyl flooring back in the mid-70s. It's a very fine later but incredibly durable.

All I would do is pour leveler. That way perfectly level floor. Overkill, yes but worth it.
Then use 6 mil click flooring over inderlay. Save a ton of time by not doing grinding, spreading and smoothing.

What's the big flattening tool used after the flat trowel (like a wide trowel on a pole)?
Edit: also what grinder wheel do you prefer? Husband uses a type of cup wheel 🤷‍♀️

Feather finish is so expensive. Okay to use Henry 547 on concrete subfloor, right? (For purpose of filling low areas before lvp installation)

Why not use ardex self leveler after grinding?

Auto leveling product are much easier to use no? You fill the spot and that's mainly it.

Why don’t you just pour self leveling concrete

Using feather is a bloody expensive way of filling in dips like that.
