It really funny, that last whistle the magpie sings (which we’re all very familiar with if you’re Australian) is a territorial whistle, so the magpie is literally saying mine, mine, mine when it’s got the toy 🧸 😂😂

Magpies hold friends dear for life. Their one of the only animals known to visit places where magpie friends have died and bring flowers and plants. It's pretty interesting.

I love the bit at the end, where the maggie breaks into her beautiful song. I was drinking tea in a friend’s backyard, when I heard a voice saying, “Hello, ” in that way where it starts high & scoops down. I heard it a couple of times, but there was no-one around. So I asked my friend if he could hear it. He said yes, and pointed to a magpie walking beside the garden. My friend said, “Hello, ” in exactly the same way as the magpie. The bird had mimicked him exactly. A very magic moment.

I love how the magpie changes the bark for the dog so that it's a sweet bark, which devolves into a love warble. Such a cute pair!
