How many things you throw away are designed to be used only once? Could you live well without using any disposable items? Lindsay Miles put it to the test.

Lindsay is the author of the plastic-free, zero waste, minimalism and sustainable living blog Treading My Own Path. In 2012 she took part in a month long plastic-free living challenge called Plastic Free July, and decided to make plastic-free living, and zero waste living, her way of life.

Plastic Free July opened her eyes to the idea that as individuals, we have the power to make a difference with the choices that we make every day. These individual actions, when repeated by thousands of people, have the potential to bring about real, lasting change.

Lindsay put her energy and passion into inspiring others to make small changes in their lives, believing that empowering individuals is what builds movements. Now a Writer, Facilitator and Sustainability Educator, Lindsay shares her journey through her blog, books and community talks.

I love the point that it’s not about “all or nothing.” When I pull out my to go container I brought from home, or glass straw, people are curious, but often feel intimidated. I always encourage them that “even saying no to a straw makes a difference!” Everyone is at a different place in their journey, but all efforts make a difference :) Thanks Lindsay, so many great points

Thank you for this fabulous talk, Lindsay. Love how you approach the subject of waste in the present tense from the perspective of a normal everyday "environmentally conscious" person and how you take your audience on a journey from the days when you were oblivious to these issues through to your awakening. I've been living zero waste for nearly two years and am at the stage where I'm trying to spread awareness of these issues far and wide - thanks for the inspiring resource :).

Transitioning to making my own bread, to cut out the 2-3 plastic bags store bought uses. Also, use bar soap, bought in paper wrap. It's not unsanitary. I garden & take care of my hens & don't get infections

You can buy solid shampoo and conditioner nowdays. On-line, even in Australia.
It's about time poeple built buildings out of used plasic instead of bags. Highways instead of kids toys. It's possible you know.
