9000 - first and best car i ever had and will have

That torque comes in massively and rapidly! Having tracked and hill climbed a 9000 aero with about 280hp I’m intrigued as to what gearbox puts up with kind of abuse! Very impressed!

I had the very first Scottish (1985) 9000 T16 2L running I think @ 1.9 atmospheres, stock turbo & unchipped. Rated at 175bhp when on leaded fuel. And that was a pretty exciting car to throw around and blow away any other sizeable hefty saloon type car unless race tuned. If I drove sensibly, I could get the mileage up to 35mpg (bigger U.K. gallons of course) and immediately after trading it in, I knew it was a bad, bad error I'd made. But the best real-world everyday driving Saab I had was a 93 9000 CS 2L with the LPT motor. The older one at 3000rpm felt like it had suddenly found another couple of cylinders and made them join the party, but the CS was milder at (I think) 150bhp @ about 1.3 atmospheres boost. No noticeable step in its power, it pulled solidly from low down, and was far less costly to insure than the older car, which they placed in group 17 at the time.
9000s were well built, beautifully engineered cars but Saab kept busting design instructions from GM because they knew their take on it was superior. This ruined sales margins, ending up with GM selling it. Didn't last long after that. Saab just made its cars too well for the disposable modern market, so it was allowed to die.

Got a Midnight blue 97 Aero manual.. it's 1 of 93 in the states as of 2006 and I can't wait till I can gap my Audi bud on a stage 2 tune (he's on stage 4) He's heavier and only about 330hp. Just gotta get a new radiator and and downpipe and im good for about 310 out of it. Mike D Tuning for the win.

500 hp !??? Really ? Middle of F on fuel gauge is ~1. 5 Bar on Saab Gauge... unless it's Broken.(verified with a Reference Boost instrument). Honda's Volvo's and Evo's run ~1.8 bar (25 psi) and generate ~350 hp.
Wheres' the 'extra 150 Hp from ? Mr Imagination perhaps ??
