President and Mrs. Reagan cherished their time alone together and found solace in havens like Camp David and Rancho del Cielo amidst the pressures of the presidency. Did you know that Camp David is actually a small U.S. Navy installation in Maryland managed by the Seabees? The Reagans often invited small groups from the White House staff and their families to join them there. President Reagan used his time at Camp David to work on speeches, personally respond to public mail, and even host heads of state. In fact, he addressed the nation from Camp David over 40 times during his 8 years in office.
