Transhood TRANSlation Summit | Day 1 - Mental Health Spotlight | HBO

Transitioning is a deep emotional experience for the person going through the transition and their loved ones. We’ll explore the topic of mental health and discuss topics like the “affirmative care model,” seek to understand why thoughts of suicide are higher among the transgender population and highlight mental health resources available to the community.

Complementing the premiere of HBO original TRANSHOOD, the TRANSlation Summit is a three-day panel series launching November 17-19 that serves to broaden and continue the conversation around the transgender experience, further educating viewers and promoting inclusivity. Hosted by Laith Ashley, the summit will feature keynote speakers such as Schuyler Bailey and Ashlee Marie Preston and panels speaking on the education system, advocacy, mental health, romantic relationships, and more. #HBO #HBODocs #Transhood

Filmed over the course of five years in Kansas City, TRANSHOOD is an inspiring chronicle of the lives of four young people and their families as they navigate growing up transgender in America’s heartland. The documentary offers a long range understanding of four transgender youth (aged 4, 7, 12, and 15 at the start of filming) as they redefine “coming of age” and share personal realities of how gender expression is reshaping their American families.
