I think it would be a really neat idea to integrate the touch ID button into your desk instead of a bulky dongle that can get knocked around on the desk. I wonder if DIY Perks would be willing to have a go at it?

Side note: That is literally the most middle finger in the air, anti-consumer, anti-repair design I have ever seen. THEY GLUED THE KEYBOARD TOGETHER.

I know it’s an un-Apple like solution but for the longest time I’ve wanted Apple to build a usb webcam with the fantastic rear cameras from their iPhones with faceID. I’m sure a product like that will never exist (especially with continuity camera) but I can dream

As a MechE masters student, I highly recommend the Prusa Mini+ tbh. It requires super minimal maintenance compared to many other entry level printers, and just works the vast majority of the time.

I imagine that this is a first step in a process that will result in me being able to buy a pre-assembled version of this (maybe in aluminum or walnut?), so as a Mac Studio owner who has graduated from Apple keyboards, thank you so much for making this happen.

For the uninitiated ones: this only works on M1/M2 Macs, it won't work with an Intel based Macs.

I would even go ahead and modify my already existing mechanical keyboard to incorporate this as a "module" by either modifying its casing or making an attachment in the same style. You can then splice the incoming usb connection to that keyboard for 5v and ground and then connect it to a lightning port/cable. Then you can have it work even more seemless!

If they sold this and it worked with Macs and iPads with Stage Manager so you do not have to physically bend over just to authenticate, I will buy 10 of them ASAP. Your move, Timmy.

This is the type of content I like most from y'all, Quinn. Thanks for making it.

Imagine if you could put a touch id button on a mouse. That would be so seamless but it seems difficult to implement.

I love it how every project you do begins like a silly informercial, this is genius for all the Mac Studio, mechanical keyboard owners

This is fantastic. Ive been telling anyone that will listen that I think Apple should just make Touch ID a damn separate accessory, but perhaps now I can just do it myself.

i feel like people who make custom keybaords could find a way to integrate this into a fancy mechanical keyboard similar to how apple does it, it might be super difficult and unreasonable but I have seen people do some crazy things so idk

This is pretty awesome, I want to try something like this for my desktop at some point

And just a tip so that you don't get made fun of by engineers - fillet is fill-et in manufacturing not fill-ay like with food
