distrokid literally uploaded my single to a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ARTIST. not one with the same name but not me, not one with a similar name, just someone COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. that is the day i decided to get off that boat.

I couldn’t upload a song to my distrokid account because they flagged it for containing a copyright protected beat. the same beat that I produced and uploaded to the same account.

Buying distrokid was the worst decision of my life now this is just solidified my hate for this company

I paid their $50 fee back in 2019 to keep my EP on streaming services “forever” as opposed to paying a yearly fee of $20. For years I got emails telling me I had to pay my $20 annual fee or my music would get taken down despite the “forever” fee I paid. Now I can’t cash out any of the money I’ve made until I put in a valid credit card to be charged the annual fee. This company is shady.

Anthony, thank you for using your platform to help push the conversation of these corporations exploitative business practices. You take advantage of your platform in all the right ways, someone like Jello Biafra would be proud. Keep up the good work.

I think it's important to point out to some people saying, "that's why I like this other company, " that DistroKid used to be as good as those other companies too at one point. And those companies you like will likely end up like Distrokid. They will want to make more and more money and as they do their practices will become worse and worse. That's a natural consequence of businesses ran by board members who don't see the value of the company beyond a means to generate wealth for themselves. They aren't interested in a sustainable model to serve customers a quality product. They just want more money.

Union busting is just so deeply perverted. I should be illegal, if only laws existed not only to protect capital owners.

Sticking with CD Baby has been one of the better decisions in my life.

why do people still call it being "laid off"? These are just firings. People are being fired from their job. Being laid off is what would happen when a factory had a surplus and didnt need as much labor temporarily and it would often result in those people being brought back later. Companies nowadays are just firing people to funnel the money from worker pay towards executives & shareholders. That isnt layoffs.

I like the cute Distrokid mascot. I'd like it to be a part of a company that wasn't intent on Union busting.

It just seems impossible to produce and release music ethically at this point
The streaming services are full of crap
Ig the distributors are full of crap too
Even things like virtual instrument companies are involved with private equity and all this bs
And who knows what's gonna happen to BandCamp next
All of it is just sad

Fantano, you're a good dude. I'm happy that US "creative" sector workers have someone with your platform in their corner. Please keep fighting the good fight and platforming unionised workers to speak about the heinous and illegal practices of these organisations.

The interview was very insightful and shed light on an issue I had no prior knowledge of. The part I found most interesting was how the music industry is becoming more like the tech industry as we continue to consume music through technological devices and platforms, making it increasingly difficult for musicians with no technological background to get a foot in the door as well as those already in the industry to gain/maintain a voice over those who do have a tech-focused background.
Anthony did a tremendous job asking real questions, and he should be proud of the work he put in studying and preparing for the interview because it shows in the end result.

Here's the modern corporate strategy: start up a a company with local talent.. get everything set up.. then mass lay off and outsource.

Props to this person for fighting the good fight and continuing to advocate despite being laid off, especially considering the awful treatment from Distrokid. Many people would have given it up for a lost cause ages ago

I knew DK was too good to be true. Ive always wanted to try it but I've never released music because it's hard to trust other people with it in such a sketchy industry, especially if they aren't going to protect and help their own employees
