Great video! Additional ideas about using decay and attack per layer: On snap layers, it can be super helpful to kill the decay of the sound. To avoid the ringing of the different snares from clashing, you can keep the snap layer at a higher volume if you like it that way. Likewise, for body layers sometimes i even fade in the attack of the sample by about 200 ms to keep the attack transient from clashing with the attack of the other layers. Not sure if you can control the envelope of hits in Superior, but if you’re using something like MPC, that stuff is easy to dial in separately per hit.

What can I say, from the first of your videos that I watched, when you revealed that there was a pro engineer behind the Billy Eillish song that was at that time being touted as a bedroom studio sound, till now, I have found your videos among the very best of the instructional videos that are on youtube. As I have Superior Drummer 3, but haven't yet delved into the mechanics of it, and how to use it for layering, which I didn't actually know it could do, you can only imagine how valuable this video is for me. Thank you.

Splitting and layering, adding different tonal values and panning?, yes all the time but, I've never combined samples. The next logical step.
Thanks. Nice.

Great trick David. I like layering samples if needed. Is there in Ez Drums a snare with turned off snare vires? I layer one snare without wires (addictive drums). That adds pure body if the recorded one Is to thin.

I use addictive drums in a similar way! I thought people would frown upon this approach so I kept it a secret. Good to know I had nothing to worry about.

Also, the velocity curve and sustain etc of the drums are very fun and easy to adjust

Can you please explain why you don't like layering kicks in rock/metal music? What about other genres? Thanks for more info and great video.

Great video again. One more thing that can make your drum sound unique that is very useful that nobody is talking about is the tuning of the drums.

Thank you David - I like Superior Drummer (and Easy Drummer) a lot. The SLATE stuff is all really good too. Have you ever heard or worked with Melda Productions Mdrummer / MDrumreplacer ? What other drum libraries do you really like for METAL/ROCK ???
