How To Make Round Paper Beads

Note: A very observant viewer noticed that I reversed the length measurements for the 8mm strips!

Round paper beads are some of the most difficult to make. In this video, I explain why and what you need to know in order to get them right.

Wonderful information. I thought I might add something I learned a few years ago. I can’t remember where I read it. An easy way to gauge how wide to make your strip(s) when designing a round bead is to first roll a tube bead with the same paper, same number of strips you want to use, and the same roller. The diameter of the resulting tube bead should correspond to the width of the strip you need to make a round bead. Of course this method uses all full length strips, layered and rolled together, rather than your method with graduated strips. Your rolled bead is much neater. But once a nice thick glaze is added (I use embossing powder), the finished bead is pretty and round.

Thanks for the tutorial. I do find the mixture of measurements confusing though. You are making beads that are so many millimetres in size, then measure all the strips in fractions of inches. I would find it easier if it was all in mm

well.. thank you but i dont use card stock paper i use all kinds of paper when i do round beads i just use 3 strips of 1/2 at top and 0 at tip works for me on almost any paper but card now i can use the card stock !! thank you!!

I wonder if sanding them into shape would be easier so you could just crank out a bunch of them really quick?

Wonderful ! Not toooo crazy about how much the ridges show, tho...I guess because of using fairly heavy paper... cardstock... do you have any directions for round beads, of any/variety of sized, made from much lighter weight paper ? Like typing paper weight, or even lighter weight ?
