The 'chroot' Command In Linux

The chroot command is what I used to tie a live environment running off a USB drive to my very broken Debian system on disk every time I got wayyy to experimental with Apt pinning.
I also recall 'chroot jails', although I gather there are more modern and secure ways to achieve simple isolation.

one of the best wrappers around chroot is arch-chroot, which I have used it to chroot into debian and gentoo as well to fix stuff when it was not bootable

Damn I used it today after a long time! I messed up my grub, and from a live CD (USB) I needed to reupdate grub. Mounted the HD to mnt, binded proc and dev and sys, and then entered the chroot jail. Amazing

Ok, this isn't a joke, THIS is my favorite linux command short... for now ;). I've been messing around with chroot stuff for a while now. Even trying to run GUI applications from a chroot on a live usb stick. And the list dependencies thing is going to come very useful.

It is a super nifty command, but the only practical use that I have personally found for it is doing some post-configuration of newly installed OS's while still booted on the live medium.
