Ed Zitron is correct. I think that people can advance their careers with whatever conditions are avaliable. One's talent and connection can't be conveyed with Face Time, Webex, Zoom? Standing in the coffee room with a "higher up" is BS.

I fear the end of in-office work will kill the coolness factor of computer geek work. It removes the connection to a social contract, where the people in coffee shops, restaurants, dry cleaners etc., find a lack of economic support. No one likes a pure parasite. Imagine a future where programmers are considered on par with investment bankers.
