I am a recovering addict...from meth. Ive been clean and sober for over 26 yrs. And stupid comments making fun of addicts...it really pisses me off! If you don't understand mental health, addiction and have no empathy.... don't say anything at all

I saw a girl sitting on bridge getting ready to jump off. The car in front of me stopped, I stopped, many other cars stopped but nobody seemed to know what to do. It doesn’t seem real. You think they are just sitting there. Then you are afraid that getting out will make them jump. I felt so helpless. I’ll never forget how slumped over she was sitting, like the weight of the world had crushed her. Finally a man got out, talked to her, stretched his hand out, and helped her down. He hugged her and walked off the bridge with her. I believe that man was sent to help her. I was so shaken by that event, I still can picture it perfectly. You just don’t think it’s real.

My Sister was a Heroin addict for 20 years. Went through substitute med’s, suicidal moments - the works. Then self detoxed. Went to Uni, worked her damn butt off. 6 yrs later she’s now a highly valued & respected Drug / Alco Counsellor. More importantly an amazing Mum who also raised her Daughter so brilliantly. ( She’s at Uni for Nursing ) Considering the challenges… Life can be be turned around - only if YOU WANT it

This guy could have a great future for himself. He has presence. Is a natural. Would be a great actor. What a waste of a talent. I hope he sees the light and gets clean. Because it's UP 2 US to CHANGE. And at end of day LIFE IS STILL WORTH LIVING! Regardless. There's always HOPE.❤

Wow, some people in society that don’t understand addiction, should’ve atleast understood that someone was about to End themselves, so help them not
To do so…but then again, who am I to deny someone their “time of just being done with it all”.. it’s a very conflicting thought I just realized while writing this comment.

My issue with these type stories is that the tellers are so often unreliable. I don't want to say liers because I think so many of them believe their own words. But too many times any kind of digging in to a story like this reveals it never happened, or was no where near the way told.

When people abuse substances and/or suffer mental issues it's often hard for them to keep the line with reality unblurred.
I want to believe and have empathy but after you spend enough time with the world their in, it's very hard to do.
