Courtney Lawes flattens Jules Plisson

Massive tackle. If I was French I'd probably have been shouting for a red card such was the impact. As it happens I think Brian Moore got it spot on with "right on the edge" and "wouldn't want to be on the end of it". As late and as high as one can get without being penalised. Perfect timing one could say.

With the adrenaline pumping in a game like this, once Lawes had committed to the tackle it would have been impossible to pull back. His body angle - head down on impact - means that there is only one way to go and that's 'follow through'. A tad late, but Plisson could just as easily have thrown a dummy pass in the time it took to release the ball, and Lawes would have been in the clear, since these hits come down to the finest of margins.

I'm French, and, if I was for the 10 first seconds "WHAT THE...", well, hey, this is legal. This action was painful but didn't deserved a red or a yellow card !
And, in the end... England didn't won the tournament, bwahaha ! ;D

Looks ugly but that was a clean and legal hit.

Regulation doesn't blame tackles as being late or on the edge. Regulation blames  tackles when they are DANGEROUS. A late tackle IS dangerous, which is why it is punished. Same for a high tackle. Same for a "cathedral" tackle. Lawes tackle IS DEFINITELY DANGEROUS and only aims to hurt. It should have been punished as such, whether it was on time, late, or on the edge.
