Why Would You Use A 'Smart' Transformer? || Dr Decks

Today we're talking about transformers and why you'd need them. We used this Hampton Bay transformer for this particular project and we'll explain why.

I just installed this same transformer for low voltage lighting for the front of my house. It is very easy to install and works like a charm.
As you indicated, the three separate channels allow me to plan lighting for my future deck in the back of the house.

I've been looking for something like this! I have 3 50W transformers currently and it is a pain to run around resetting each one throughout seasons ! Great video!

Very cool power supply. But remember, you need "headroom" on top of the wattage each bulb draws. Plus the voltage drop in the wires. So for your 16 bulbs, best be safe with at last a 30 watt power supply. And you're right, for the money, better to go bigger than spot on, as it allows the homeowner to expand/add lights without worry. Plus the smart features alone are worth the price.

I do want to ask, I see you running 4 wires into two inputs? (on 1 "channel" as you refer to it). If so, what purpose? If I'm seeing things wrong there, apologies in advance.

This is AWESOME...I just saw this same thing at HD today, purchased it, and will be doing some DIY landscaping on a new build. I currently have Solar, but they do not last (lights) due to less sun during these Texas winters/cold months

Really helpful. I'm just figuring out the regular and low-voltage cabling for a new deck and gazebo we're building this spring...

I want to build in as much low-voltage lighting (with dimming and RGBW capabilities wherever possible) as I can in the gazebo, in the step risers between deck levels, under a "counter railing" on the top deck by our hosta/shade garden and uplighting floodlights for trees and vines at the base of the fence. I hadn't thought of lighting UNDER the deck (including through the trellis on the sides to keep the dog out), but that sounds great too...

The multicircuit feature sounds great, but I imagine if I want to use some RGBW features, I may still have to use a separate transformer for those...

IF the internet goes out (let's say for a day or two), is there an option / function on this smart transformer to work without internet, like a normal non-smart transformer would?

What led under deck lights did you power with this?

I believe they gave me the wrong type of wire. The one he gave me has a ground. I did everything you said I left the ground just hanging. Any suggestions.
