3 Big Scientific Innovations of 2014! (Episode Updates)

Often our show is right on the cusp of big innovations and scientific leaps forward. The future is coming at us so fast, sometimes we shoot an episode, and within a month, a week, or sometimes even the NEXT DAY, a fascinating new development comes out on the very same topic. In this "where are we now" episode of Fw:Thinking - as we fast approach 2015 – we pick out a few of our favorite examples of recent developments in topics we’ve previously explored.

I'd like to see an update about fiction's effect on reality. I love the little cycle between how fiction inspires people into real life innovations(like power armor/exoskeletons) and then fiction in turn borrows from reality in a symbiotic and mutually beneficial evolution.

The part about the underwater city mentioned converting CO2 into methane for fuel. That conversion process is a topic that could use more details. We've already heard proposals for artifically capturing CO2, but I've always heard them go on talk about burying it like waste in the ground, which, given that plants normally metabolize it back into oxygen makes carbon capturing sound pretty short sighted. If these micro-organisms can make CO2 become CH4, presumably just releasing the oxygen in the process, could this lead to a practically sustainable cycle that simultaneously attacks both CO2/greenhouse and fuel/energy problems? Sounds like a separate episode on just this could be interesting.
