Mitch McConnell's latest freeze raises concerns over aging US political leaders

A tough-to-watch moment played out in front of T.V. cameras this week as U.S. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell appeared to suffer a medical episode in the middle of a press conference, freezing for the second time in recent months.

Video taken by other reporters at the event appeared to show the 81-year-old senator trailing off and staring straight ahead for about 10 seconds after he was asked whether he plans to run for re-election in 2026. The apparent freeze-up came after he admitted he was having trouble hearing the question and asked the reporter to repeat it.

The incident raises concerns about the fitness of some of the most senior political leaders in the U.S., including the country's 80-year-old President Joe Biden.
