Surprising twist sends Ann Sophie to Vienna for Germany

The German national final 'Unser Song für Österreich' took a surprising turn when the winner was announced.

As first placed Andreas Kümmert decided to decline the opportunity to represent Germany in Austria, Ann Sophie was declared the winner of Unser Song für Österreich. She will sing her song “Black Smoke” in Vienna!

Don't compete at all when there is a chance to win the national final. I think Andreas didn't decided that in a couple of minutes before the results... But ohwhale, like the song of Ann more. It is actually refreshing after so many ballads that we have already.

I'm so proud of her representing us and I'm glad that I voted for her as well. I think she can get a top 10 position for us. The song is really modern and catchy. Andreas Kümmert's refusal was the best that could happen to us. :)

As a German-Eurovision-fan it hurts every time when I have to see that again. Don't get me wrong, I love Ann Sophie and I'm happy that she's going to represent us and not .... HIM...She has my full support... but the circumstances are so unsatisfying. What Andreas did was wrong and there are no excuses for that - he disrespected the other artists, the televoters, the ARD/NDR and every Eurovision-fan out there. I can't even imagine what the final would have looked like when he would have cancelled his participation before. It's like a punch in the face of a whole nation. What makes me really sad is the fact that the German press tries to extol him like he's some kind of hero - no he isn't. I'm proud that I'm one of the 21% who voted for Ann Sophie and I know that she's going to give her best in Vienna!

I like Ann Sophie. She was a worthy winner. I just wished she won in the usual way.  Now the poor girl has to go knowing she didn't get the support of a nation and won't get support probably.!
That Andreas though. If you don't think the contest is right for you then why not say so from the start? And let them choose another song? he must have known there is a chance of winning everything?

What great timing from that guy.. let your nation waste their votes supporting you and then suddenly decide you don't want to do it, therefore making it awkward for Ann Sophie. Hopefully Germany gets behind her.

She reminds me a lot of Lena. Congrats to her, but I would have preferred Andreas not to have stood down. He has a damn fine voice.

To be honest I find it suspicious that he went to all that effort to win, to turn it down. Was he quietly asked to move over?

I don't want her to go to eurovision, nor that I want Andreas to go. At the national final, this week, people voted for him because he is a BIG name for "the voice", why couldn't people vote for Farenhaidt and sent them along with Ann sophie to the superfinal!? Srsly I voted for them so bad and in the end this "Big name" declined the title and doing a dick move he decided to leave it to the runner up! THAT'S DISGUSTING, he could be a big name but after this he is hated in Germany. I don't give a damn about his "personal issues" but the fact is that he got support from the majority of the voters and he squeezed through the finals although is song wasn't that appealing, and all that at the end didn't mattered because he didn't wanted to go. So if you don't want to go, then decline the offer before it's too late and 70% of the population supports you!
Srsly Re-do the show, I'm sure Germany would like to see Ann Sophie and Farenhaidt at the big final.
