Rishi Sunak could be appointed Britain’s next prime minister in the coming hours after Boris Johnson bowed out of the race to No 10.

In his way is Penny Mordaunt, who last night only had around two dozen nominations for the leadership, well short of the 100 MP threashold.

The only hope for the country is for Sunak to have a shorter time as PM than Truss.

Johnson wanted to be PM again and wanted to get Mordent and then Sunak to drop out. When neither did that and Johnson probably did not get the 100 MPs he realised he was beaten.

Tory strategy: appoint absolute nutters for 3 years, in order to make the hawk look competent and normal. Now Rishi will impose austerity, privatisation and the usual Tory voter will vote for them again...

Yes, stability will come from our rejoining the EU.

He can bring stability. However, he is not an Election winner. Perhaps that's a good thing at this point.
We need Penny for the future. Just hope Penny is given a good cabinet role so she absorb more experience for when her time comes, and it will.

Britain should just hold a nation wide election. How long will Sunak last is now the question especially when he won the position without being elected by the majority of the people themselves?

If Rishi wins, he should revert back to his decision and remove duty free from airports. For most of the products sold there, the savings aren’t passed onto the consumers.

I think Boris did this on Purpose to show that Rishi is the right man for the job. It looks like it was planed on Boris behalf . Good move. It’s like a game of chess. Exciting 😀

Boris is no angel! He made the right decision for himself, not for the country. Didn't Boris's team earlier said that they have the 100 plus numbers? Boris as usual being a manipulator and lier tried to manipulate but realised he couldn't. Clueless and conniving Penny is now trying to manipulate as well. Penny and Boris must have had a backdoor deal. All these people who support anyone other than Rishi just cannot stomach that a British of Indian decent is going to become the PM! These people brought in Liz Truss (on the same grounds as they are now trying to do with conniving Penny) and see what that did do to the country!! Conniving Penny supported clueless Liz's unfunded tax cuts and then tried to throw Liz under the bus and look good!! The party needs to realise that their self-interest and personal prejudices is unimportant, keep it locked in a box. What is important is the good of the country! The markets have no confidence in clueless Liz, conniving and equally clueless Penny nor the clown Boris. Rishi has proven himself well as a chancellor when he devised the world renowned furlough scheme. I just hope the self-centered and conniving Penny's supporters and the racist out there will put the country first before themselves. Unite and work with Rishi to make the UK great again!! The UK needs a PM who is intelligent and sincere, not conniving and clueless, or a clown!

So third prime minister since an election still less than three years ago. Where's the mandate?

And if you think this government is going to look out for the less well off, then you obviously haven't been following Tory politics for the last 40 years.

Yes Rishi can bring economic stability! People are paying £500 more per month for their mortgage! So it could not be any worse! Rishi has a sound economic plan!

It's all short term.
Austerity.
Tax cuts.
What about the infrastructure, NHS to keep workforce working and education and training.
The economy is run by financiers not entrepreneurs.

“Stability” is a value Russia prioritize Over everything else in politics. Dangerous word.
What about “change”? Real change will require instability.
