From the ownership's perspective: when a player has a good run/good season - sell him (due to increased value).
From the club's (fans') perspective: when a player has a good run/good season - keep him cause we may actually use him in the long term to help us get some silverware.

Chelsea has 4 sets of teams. The first team. A second one with goalkeepers. A third with defenders and a fourth with midfielders/strikers.

Cannot afford Davies or Calafiori nor Eze or Elise, neither Toney or Osimhen. Yet we are spending tons on young players. Who will baby sit them once they arrive? How many careers will stutter or regress? The math does not make sense.

With a squad inching from low forties to fifties, we are selling seasoned or mature players at a discount. No longer appreciating assets but depreciating ones. Making them affordable to fund youth purchases. An attempt to spread the risk hoping one or two from each of the four teams succeed at becoming a star or superstar.

DO THESE FUCKING DIRECTORS AND OWNERS KNOW THAT YOU CANT MAKE MONEY ON A GOALKEEPER UNLESS HES LEGITIMATELY THE BEST IN THE WORLD. the most expensive goalkeeper other than Kepa cause only Chelsea would pay 72m on a GOALKEEPER is alisson and that was under 60m after that the top goalkeepers go for 30-45m. 20-25 is the typical amount for a decent goalkeeper. We are fucked we have 3-4 guys what we paid that money for and every single one of them have a value of 1-10m we are FUCKED.
