Thank you for the video. Not at all harsh. I am having a 'no sales' month (well, sold 2 books in June so far!), but I will keep on going, and move onto another niche next week. I started in February and still get excited when I sell books and also when I receive a sample and it looks fabulous.

When I decided to get into publishing LCBs I spent more than two months researching the subject, viewing book listings on AZ, and watching YT videos. It didn't take me long to start figuring out there's lot of you know what out there regarding the subject.

One of the biggest problems I noticed while I was doing my research is that many people think all they have to do is take a premade interior from Creative Fabrica and slap any old generic, lousy-looking cover on it. They then expect to see sales start rolling in immediately after their books are published. I'm not knocking CF, because I have a subscription membership myself.

With that in mind I decided from the get-go that I was going to bring something new to the table, and do my own design work for both the interiors and exteriors of my books.

I published my first book at the end of May. I'm working on my second one now. It features my own artwork, so I know there's nothing else on AZ like it. Will I be successful with my approach? I don't know. Only time will tell. I'm just going to keep in mind some advice Paul Marles gives in one of his videos. That's not to fret and fuss about your books once they're published, because not all of them will sell. Just keep on creating books and let the ones that don't sell go from your mind.

Thanks Nuria for your genuine and kind advices. I just completed my first book and uploaded to KDP. I have spent more than 50 hours in this book. It's a kid's activity book. I have kids, I make the book for them and want to sell it too. I want to make all my books with love. Thanks for telling me that you regretted uploading too many books that you don't like. I take that advice seriously. You are the best KDP gurus, in fact, you are the master of gurus.

I've been reading Dean Wesley Smith's nonfiction books on writing & publishing fiction. He has stated that a lot of writers make the mistake of pulling their books when they've been on the market for a while and have low to no sales. He says this is a mistake, because once you unpublish the book, there is 100% chance of it never making money. But, if you just leave it, there's the chance that the sales will grow over time. He said the only time to pull a book is if you've made improvements, or created a new cover, and have published the edited version. Sometimes a new cover is all that is needed to see sales pick up. That sounds like a good marketing plan for those selling low/no content books as well. Just leave the books up and don't worry about them. If there are little to no sales after several months, revamp the cover &/or interior and publish it again.

I'm only four minutes into listening and I just had to stop and say thank you so much for your honesty! There are so many making noise trying to convince us that there is money to be made quickly and easily but neglect to say that you have to put in the work upfront and be patient with the process. I truly appreciate your honesty.

Clearly spoken👍🏾👍🏾! It definitely should be said to prevent people from getting into this business for the wrong reasons with the wrong mindset. The truth often hurts but keeps you on the right track. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Hello Nuria, it wasn't harsh at all and I think you are one of the few people who show the true face of this business with its highs and lows. Thank you, I really appreciate it.

Nuria, you speak the hard truth, but in a good way! I have been at this now for just less than 2 years, I have done everything someone shouldn't do and have learned a lot from it. I did take about a 2 month break and came back and I just did a re-fresh of what I knew to be true and started doing what I was good at which was research instead of listening to the "guru's" who also are following someone else's "shiny object syndrome plan", lol! I have watched hundreds of KDP videos and oddly enough there are only 3-4 folks (one of which is you of course!) that I keep coming back to. Like you said, it is not a get-rich-quick scheme, it takes time, focus and desire. Invest in yourself and your business! I don't think you were harsh at all. Thank you for sharing your insights! 😉❣

I thoroughly agree. Cover designs and cover font size and design are so important. Do this because you enjoy it. Do this because you may help others with your work. Don’t do this with the sole aim of making money. We need to learn any skill. Keep practicing.

Love this honesty. I’d love have much understanding of kdp and how to manage all the different aspects to selling and marketing.

As usual, EXACTLY. The idea that anyone can do it if they just persist is nuts. Not everyone is cut out for this. And it's NOT fast. Even if your first book sold a little, that's not common. But usually not. There is a point when you need to look at other things that you might be better suited for...and the burn out thing is very real. But if you can't handle rejection you really should do something else. 90% of your work, your "babies", will not sell, EVER. So, if you're feelings are hurt easily, find something else.

Thanks for this truth that sets free from worry and anxiety, so we can focus more on what matters most in the publishing business. More divine grace.

What a video! What I've been waiting for since morning, Thank You Ma'am!

Please can you make a video on what to do after uploading your book?

I really thank this video Nuria. It is not common at all that a content creator says uncomfortable aspects of an activity, but this is reality. I take the chance to also say that I trust in you and your content, I believe you from the first time I found your channel, and I started following that sort of "gurus" that affirm without hesitation that you have to publish books in series as a bakery making cupcakes no matter what, the quality or whatever. Nowadays I only follow three creators including you.
Thanks for all your honest efforts Nuria.

PS are you Spanish?
