K Annamalai is a multifaceted personality who has traversed through the realms of civil service and finally emerged as a prominent politician. Annamalai is an engineer turned IPS officer from the Karnataka cadre and was known as Karnataka's “Singham” for being a tough cop. He was a Deputy Commissioner of Police in South Bengaluru and rose to prominence for tackling riots in Karnataka’s Chikmagalur in 2017. Annamalai quit the police service in September 2019 to join politics and became the youngest BJP president in Tamil Nadu in 2021. As a politician, he made headlines for levelling charges of corruption against Tamil Nadu’s DMK government and Chief Minister M K Stalin.
