My husband says it’s because the dry ice is reflecting a lot of the sunlight and not absorbing it. He’s a PhD optical engineer.

I love how Hank from Breaking Bad is doing science experiments in his retirement days.

"Unknown territory for the Solar Death Ray" is a slightly terrifying line.

The dry ice chrystilization redirects the photonic rays, thus preventing it from reaching its normal high temperature.

Ice, especially white ice has crazy high albedo meaning it reflects almost any radiation it comes into contact with, including light. By focusing all that energy into pretty much a laser beam the energy needed for molecules to sublimate isn’t reached as more and more light is reflected. It’d honestly melt faster in an oven or area where it’s surrounded by heat.

Oh yeah, we use dry ice at my job, and putting a chunk on the thin metal rails and basket of the sliding drawers we also use give off the creepiest screechy squeak- it's the sound of the CO2 instantly boiling (same idea behind pressing something to a frying pan and the sizzle sound increasing).

This is also why igloos can get super warm. Ice is a great insulator!

Now, can we get an ASMR video of the singing? Cause it sounded hauntingly beautiful.

That was first time any dry ice saw the solar death ray. Fortunately dry ice was fully vaccinated 😂

Dry ice seems like a cold extreme to us. But the truth is, when dealing with 2500°, -100° makes very little difference. Chemical properties are much more important here.

This sound isolated without any other noise or talking over would be pretty cool.
