How do you feel about regional dialects?

This is just a quick video about the use of regional dialects. I am curious about how my viewers feel about dialects. Please be respectful of other people's opinions when having a discussion. Also, I hope you appreciate my low-quality thumbnail.

In the UK, we have ton of different regional accents and what i guess could be considered dialects. I think that these all add "spice" to the language. I could understand in maybe a public setting speaking to masses of people but i think in normal conversation between 2 or a small group of people i don't particularly see a problem (perhaps maybe if they're non-natives and not used to the dialect).

This also reminds of a similar thing we had in the UK a few decades ago (IIRC) where one would need to speak in the "normal/standard british accent" to be on the BBC (TV, radio, etc). nowadays this really isn't the case though (i think). But the UK also has a lot more immigration than japan so this might just be due to that that we accept the more "non-standard" type speakers.

English is widely spoken with an incredible number of dialects and we somehow communicate just fine. Any subgroup is going to eventually develop their own dialect and specific way of interacting.

Even certain professions and subcultures develop their own jargon. I heard someone last week use the word "modularize" in a normal circumstance and I suspected immediatly that he was an IT professional. Even me and my friends have weird in-jokes and phrases only we understand out of context.

I think dialects are a natural mechanic of language and no specific one is inherently better. Of course with mass media you want to prioritize the most understood and therefore widely used dialect, but that is a matter of sheer practicality. Otherwise any attempts to dissuade them is silly and artificial.

As a native speaker of Spanish, I have experienced this. There is no standard form of Spanish, although the written version is managed by The Royal Spanish Academy. (La Real Academia Española) Spanish speakers can understand most of the dialects because of globalisation, and most people think it's a fun experience listening and comparing their own dialect to others'. I do have personal favourite dialects and least favourite dialects, but that's another topic. All dialects are good because they all have a history.

I just cringe so much when people say that prescriptivistish bullshit :/

I'm from Russia, and unfortunately, dialects are not really a thing in this country. Partly because of the aggressive language policy, partly because the capital cities are much more developed compared to other regions of the country and thus they have just an abnormally big economical influence on them.
So only some old people in some really rural areas speak them. And since the people are old... well, i'm sure even that won't last for long. And it really upsets me.
I think i even kinda envy English-speaking, Japanese and other people who have such diversity of dialects of their native language.

And almost everyone here is just convinced that "THERE IS JUST ONE TRUE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RUSSIAN LANGUAGE AND IF YOU DON'T SPEAK PROPERLY YOU ARE AN IGNORAMUS FOOL AND DON'T YOU DARE TO POLLUTE OUR GLORIOUS LANGUAGE WITH YOUR UNAPPROPRIATE WORDS, "WRONG" STRESS AND YOUR STUPID GRAMMAR."
It just drives me crazy sometimes.

Also, Komei-san, i wonder if you graduated from some linguistic university or maybe study you in one right now?. If you don't mind answering. (i'm sure people have already asked it, but i couldn't find it :( )
