Vegetation Fire Near Intersection of Grapefruit Boulevard & 6th Street in Coachella

On Monday, May 13th, dispatchers received reports of a vegetation fire near the intersection of Grapefruit Boulevard and 6th Street in Coachella. The first arriving Engine Company reported a large spot of vegetation burning along train tracks with strong, southerly winds. Due to the fire’s close proximity to the tracks, a hard closure was initiated on the railroad so firefighters could safety mitigate the flames. After about 45 minutes, trains were allowed to pass at a reduced speed of 15 miles per hour. The fire was contained to half an acre of vegetation.
