1976 Ford Gran Torino 0-60mph (Fordor, stock)

Показать описание
My Bicentennial Torino has a Motorcraft 2150 (2bbl) feeding a 400 Cleveland to a C6, ending at a nine-inch out back. Run was downhill somewhat, but altitude was around 5,900ft. It does it with about ten seconds on the clock, as there is a second or so of wheelspin. Curb weight is just shy of 4300lbs.
This run was happily performed on the fourth of July, 2011.

@jmkpns Also forgot to say, the 400 can stand up to a 460 when built right because it is a square motor, meaning it has a 4" stroke and 4" Bore, giving it a high amount of torque at a relatively low rpm, I've seen some builds on them with them making like 478 ft-lbs with the stock heads...

@jmkpns The 400 has a different deck height and is wider, heads, cams and a lot of other parts are interchangable, the rotating assembly (crank, and rods) are different though, as well as the intake manifold

Interesting. Some of that is new to me. I did forget to mention one thing I knew of - the intake manifold. That I did know was different but I'd never heard that the deck height was different or the block was physically wider.

I don't disagree, but your comparison is like a PT boat set against a two man fishing boat. You must have missed that this is a 1976 (smog) 400 Cleveland with the timing retarded at least five degrees, running a small CFM two pot, then pushing 4200lbs at 6, 000ft of altitude.
This is also a four door Torino, which is different from the coupe most are familiar with; the wheelbase is 4" longer and the gears are shorter too. I think it did fairly well for an original 35 year old machine.

Dead on there! I find it odd that the 400 has a longer stroke than the 300-6 which was designed as a workhorse engine for trucks! As you said, and saw in my video above: it makes a lot of torque way low down, but doesn't have a lot of giddyup! Well, stock anyway. I'd love to tear this one down and turn it into a real stump puller... someday.

@CorvusCasull Yeah, that explains the wider manifold, and forgot to say nice car btw lol

@CorvusCasull Lol, my 78' truck has a '75 400M from a car which I'd like to get a performer 400 intake, 4 bbl, and longtube headers for. These motors pump out about 300 ft-lbs from the factory. And the 300 I-6 has high performance potential too, I've seen one with 110, 000 miles with an offenhauser 4 bbl intake and a blow-through turbo setup run high 10's in a Maverick. A lot of these old engines have lots of overlooked potential.

You'd be surprised how well a spreadbore four barrel can do on fuel if you keep your foot out of it. In fact I'd like to adapt a Quadrajet to this engine, which will likely throw a lot of the Ford guys into convulsions...

@knaxon the cars arent such fast as you think, they are very heavy and dont have over 500bhp, so about 10seconds are good.

Sounds almost exactly like my sisters 78 Bird with its 351M

They both share the same block, yes. The only thing that separates the 400 Cleveland and the 351M are the con-rods and crank. (There could also be other little differences that I don't know of or don't remember)
Do they stand up to a 460? You should be more specific so I don't end up writing three paragraphs.

Isn't the Cleveland 400 and 351 both the same block? Do they stand up to a 460?

i thought these things were insanely fast? but that acceleration is like equal to a hyundai accent.
