"Give My Regards to Broadway" is a song written by George M. Cohan (1878-1942) for his 1904 musical play "Little Johnny Jones." Like the other songs I have done by Cohan, this version of the song is sung by Billy Murray (1877-1952), Cohan's fellow Irish-American. Murray's version was sung one year after "Little Johnny Jones" in 1905. It is today known as one of the greatest songs of it's time.

Love hearing these early sound recordings fascinating! I have Boardwalk Empire to thank for introducing me to an era of music and culture that I was otherwise ignorant of.

Thanks for uploading this! I'm reading up on Evelyn Nesbit and the murder scandal in which her husband Harry Thaw killed her previous lover (and rapist) Stanford White. This was done during a performance at the madison square garden, and reading a news article from that time I learned that after the initial confusion the band was told to play "Johnny Jones", presumably to cal things down. It might have very well been this song, and I find it amazing that I live in this day and age when I can look this up and listen to it! Just imagine that this was played through the confusion of the gunshots and the screams, it's wonderfully absurd.

Did you ever see two Yankees part upon a foreign shore?
When the good ship's just about to start for Old New York once more?
With tear dimmed eye, they say goodbye
They're friends, without a doubt;
When the man on the pier shouts, "Let them clear!"
As the ship strikes out.

Give my regards to Broadway!
Remember me to Herald Square!
Tell all the gang at Forty Second Street
That I will soon be there!
Whisper of how I'm yearning
To mingle with the old time throng!
Give my regards to Old Broadway
And say that I'll be there, 'ere long!

Forget about degenerate criminal clowns like 69 and Lil Wayne. They shouldn’t even be called musicians. Now THIS is real music. It’s really sad nowadays how music like this isn’t appreciated for how great it truly is. Culturally the world is in a downward spiral to degeneracy and criminality.

Ce sont des amis, sans aucun doute;
Mes amitiés à Old Broadway
Mes amitiés à Old Broadway
