Crime and Punishment is a very deep book in the search for personal meaning, not collective meaning of life; but even more profound ideas one could come upon from reading Brothers Karamazov.

How beautiful... I have also found my life improves by giving away most of my income. I think that part of that comes from giving to a non-profit that I formed in answer to the question: "how can I have the most positive impact per dollar, minute and unit of natural resources?" That means I get to spend the money I give answering that question, which is fun.

As Will MacAskill discussed how he often reflects back to what his 15 year old self would think of what he is doing with his life currently, I was incredibly touched to know that such an incredible intellect and amazing human being uses a technique for which I have been so frequently criticized. Being told that if I hadn't "grown" since then, I was a failure. I choose to believe THAT reflection prevents me from becoming jaded and staying true to my core beliefs. I also like to think about what my 104 year old self would think of what I am doing or the choice that I am planning to make. Am I going to be able to answer the former question at the latter age? Thank you so much for the fascinating discussion!

Literally just yesterday have I watched his TED Talk on Effective Altruism (after checking out the website of Liv Boeree who's just appeared on TF Show) for the first time. I didn't even know you've also just interviewed Will!

Interesting. I was also pondering the same questions ten years ago. But eventually understood that life is a test for humans, and they'll be rewarded either by Paradise or Hell. And that we should follow the teaching of the past prophets and especially those of Muhammad.
How did I understand this?
By studying the Quran and understanding that human beings couldn't create such a book (read Divine Speech by Nouman Ali Khan)
