Nandy defends Rayner and dodges questions on Labour's second home ownership plans

Shadow minister Lisa Nandy has defended Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner as controversy surrounding her living arrangements continues.

Questions have been circulating over the sale of an ex-council house she previously owned in Stockport, having been accused of avoiding capital gains tax - something she has denied.

When asked about second homes more broadly, Ms Nandy said Labour's plan is about trying to "tilt the balance of power back towards first time buyers and people who own their own homes to live in".

However, she dodged questions about what policies they will put in place around second homes for those who have invested to contribute to their pension pots, for example.

The irony of this tax dodger. If this was a Tory Rayner would be calling for them to resign, call the leader weak not suspending them and calling for full transparency.

I guess Labour haven't changed. Do as I say not as I do 😂

Nandy should never have been elected by the select committee to represent Wigan.
She from Manchester have no idea about people struggling to pay bills from a Indian millionaire back ground train to be a solicitor.

Even knowing that Labour are almost nailed on to be the next government, they still can’t say with any clarity what they will do or what their policies are. It’s beyond pathetic.

I'm a lifetime Northern Socialist and this business looks 'well dodgy'. I can't say I believe a word Angela Rayner's saying on this. I know plenty that think likewise.

The more i see labour politicians the more I am sure they are not government material. Nandy is absolutely Pathetic how did she ever become a politician.

In order for a first time buyer to be able to... Buy a house they have to be affordable.
This is not difficult

I had two rental properties in the past. Had to pay extra stamp duty. Had to pay capital gains tax. Come Angela, pay up

So Rayner bought the house under"the Tory rules"and now they don't like it, if someone already has a second home"good for them", what should happen is if a house comes up for sale anywhere it should be the first time buyers that should get the choice of buying it not the rich wealthy who will pay more for it, saying that though it keeps the first time buyers paying way over the top for the rent which then means they cant save enough to buy the property, win win for the rich again ain't it, trust me, most of these private landlords are not even on the landlords register, profiteering comes to mind

Why doesn't someone refer the matter to HMRC, they are the appropriate department to deal with this matter. HMRC are responsible for collecting taxes owed and Investigating wrongdoing

Nandy was good on Wallace and Grommit, but I'm not sure she was cast correctly in her current role.

Listen to Nandy saying there aren’t enough houses, yet thinks importing countless immigrants is a great idea. The whole lot of them are a disgrace.

What a load of waffle. There would be plenty of council houses if labour mps werent selling their own for profit. How about banning MPs from having second homes for starters and cutting their salaries from 90k and golden pensions. Disgrace
