It's a miss to not also offer the "Twin" bundled with the 1" sensor instead of just the 4K sensor.

You always have spectacular reviews! My favorite reviewer. Concise, to-the-point, thorough, and seemingly unbiased. One thing I hardly hear any reviewer mention is the customer service experience. Man, that's one gaudy-colored hotel room!

This is more like the DSLR of action cameras. I never understood why gopro didn't do this back in the day. Now Insta360 has answered my prayers!

The only option any serious person would want is the 360 with the 1 inch add on. But for those 2 alone cot £700. Add on the extended battery and drone add on and who wants to pay all that. Most people will want to use a normal action camera so i'd say the GoPro hero 8 is a better option for most people. I personally just want a new stand alone 360 camera with maybe 1 inch sensors, imroved resolution and waterproof rating. I can't see any point changing my One X for this camera. I can see there is a small improvment but thats not enough to spend all that money on to change my One X. I'm quite confident with the Theta Z1 in existance we will see a another 360 camera from insta360 which fully replaces the One X. That is the camera i am waiting for.

Nice clear explanation Ben. I think Insta360 might be on to something here. People love choices in this day and age. I like the fact that I can slowly build a few different cameras from the modular bits when I can afford it and there’s potential to upgrade a particular piece instead of buying a whole new camera.

I think the modular format would be great for my uses, especially with future add-ones. You could buy one of each camera part with a couple bases and batteries and have a full camera crew ready for travels.

This is a very interesting new camera system, and I'm very interested in it. I can't wait to see more of your testing of this new kit. Thanks for sharing Ben.

My current travel vlogging set up is the insta360 one X & gopro hero 7. Works great. But I am intrigued by the insta360R. To combine both the action & 360 cam in one unit is very interesting. And for vlogging, I am curious to see how good the audio is using an external mic or wireless headphones like airpods. Lastly, a 1” sensor & Leica lens sounds great. Between my iphone & the insta360R, i don’t think i’d need any other camera while traveling. I do wish insta360 had a drone adaptor for the mavic air tho. But it seems like it’s only for the mavic pro for now.

I totally get it! This system is clearly a step up on what's out there, but since this is an Insta360 camera, I was coming to it from the 360 perspective...and what I'm seeing is that aspect of the system is simply one small component in the overall system. Yes it has generally upped the game in features and quality, and I think it is smart for them to deliver different features through add-on modules...cost effective in so many ways...but for someone who already has a One X, and three different versions of GoPros...I'm not seeing enough here to make me drop everything I have and start again in a new system. I appreciate your observation in this regard, and loved your "minimalist" comment because that is exactly what I was thinking.

I'm not saying I don't like the One R or its modular concept. I think is very smart. Since they seem to have already covered the 360 feature, I guess I'll need to wait awhile and see what other modules they bring to life...like a zoom lens module...or multispectral sensor module.

Right now, the only thing that gets me itching is the drone build version. I own a Mavic 2, and that is the only current system option that seems to allow me to build new capabilities with equipment I already own, but that doesn't seem to be mature yet. They are showing it, but It isn't for sale, and I already learned my Insta360 lesson when it comes to the actual delivery of accessories.

My plan is to hang on to my money and see what else comes popping out. It will be extremely interesting to see how GoPro responds to this.
