Thank you Bob. I drive a van for work and I see mobiles being used all the time. I also see so many people with one had in the middle at the top of the steering (gangster style) trying to look cool or look ridiculous.

Great video Bob, I hate people using there phones whilst driving, here in the UK the penalty has been doubled from 3 to 6 points which means for new drivers one strike and your banned and you have to retake your test. I don't understand why in the driving test why we have to use the shuffle method all the time, they say it's so you don't ever cross your hands in case the airbag goes off. This is very unlikely to happen, the driving test really needs modernising.

3 o clock is the #1 chosen position of most Irish motorist. sandwich/roll on top of the steering, coffee/tea at 3 position.Another favourite is the 12 mid day. hand on the wheel at 12 and the other with the phone to the ear.

Every so often I see drivers resting their two arms over the wheel in a sort of slumped position, lethal!

I like to think I follow this pretty well. My natural position is quarter to three which I just carried over from sim racing. I think I use the heel of one hand to park too. Before I did my driving test I was so focused on keeping my steering perfect to not get into bad habits that I only really learned and became comfortable after I passed and relaxed!

Well Bob, you may be surprised to hear but steering wise for your test it has changed. I'm currently doing my lessons and now they are recommending hands at quarter to three and not to do the shuffle unless parking. I expected it to be the old way at 10 to 2/ shuffling and I was steering very rigged at first, I have loosened up but found it very difficult because of the misconception. Great video none the less.

Good vid Bob, Small thing I noticed in yesterdays (03/07/17) you were in the new VW Arteon, Now I totally agree 100% with you about using mobile phones when driving etc etc, BUT from around about 03:05 in that video you were looking at the screen looking for the heating controls etc on the cars infotainment screen this is just as bad as mobile phone usage I'm sure you will agree.Pease dont get me wrong I am not in any way shape or form saying what you were doing is wrong or the like, but car makers are actively encouraging drivers to look away from the road with the new in car screen set up's, where do we then go from here?Keep up the great vid's, cheers.

So basically drive turn the steering wheel with whatever method feels best, normal and or comfortable and pay attention to the road. Sounds easy enough.

If you use your phone while your driving it should be - automatic 3 month ban, no questions... Keep doing it the bans double.
