You know you got good taste if you stumble upon these songs out of nowhere. Songs like this takes you on a whole different destination where no one can find you. My mom has late stage cancer. We weren’t expecting her diagnosis; she went in for an unrelated surgery and they found a huge mass all tangled in her abdomen. That night, after not eating all day, my dad and I went to get something to eat, next to the hospital. I gave him my headphones and had him listen to this. He just... needed a minute. He had just had to go into the room the love of his life was in and tell her she had cancer and it was bad. On top of a chronic illness that would have eventually killed her regardless.

I wanted a song that he could just listen to, not try to pick out each word, not try to analyze, but just experience. He needed a moment. We had to get back quickly, so I had to choose one song for him to just zone out to while he ate (I still couldn’t eat). I’ll always remember this song as being something that helped comfort him, as it had comforted me in my nerves before her surgery.

That was January. They wouldn’t let her start chemo until the incision healed and infection (staph, how fun) kept that from happening. She’s finally getting treatment, chemo, Monday.

The cancer’s had a year to play and do its work. I don’t know if we can make up lost ground and fix this, buy her a few years to watch my brother become a doctor and to see us both get married, to maybe become a grandmother. But we’re certainly going to try. I’m sure this song will be a comfort many times before all is said and done.

Why I love Youtube? Because it helps you to discover beautiful songs that are not mainstream. And you don't even have to look for it sometimes. It just comes by itself. Maybe the main purpose is to make money from it, but it does so much more in the process. Like putting a gentle smile on ppl faces with a subtle joy in our hearts. It's exactly like someone said before in the comments: it's the kind of music you just experience, not listen or analyze. This song has helped me, too, through some of the toughest moments of my life. So yeah, the water did take the weight from me. Being born in a city by the sea, I'm drawn to it on a deeper level. Even as a kid it meant so much more to me than the usual summer entertainment version. Whenever I listen to this song, the mood becomes bittersweet. I feel like I want to cry, because it brings back memories that I tried so hard to distance myself from, but, at the same time, it gives me some sort of reassurance that someone understands me and it's ok to feel the way I feel. So my tears are both tears of joy and sorrow.
