Search TV theme by Dominic Frontiere, different version.

I recorded this off BBC Radio about 30 years ago, I didn't get it from the beginning, but as soon as I heard the first few bars, I turned on my radio cassete recorder. When it ended , the announcer didn't say who played it. There were a number of British bands and orchestras that recorded American TV themes, such as Kojak, Hawaii Five-0, The Rockford Files and The Magician. I researched a few of them that I remembered such as Geoff Love, who recored The Virginian theme, and the John or Johnny Gregory orchestra, but couldn't find Search among the TV themes they recorded. Perhaps a viewer of this video will know who recorded it and will post a comment. My printer wasn't working prorperly when I printed off the enlarged TV Guide cover for Hugh O'Brian to sign at the Memphis Film Festival, Gathering of Guns, 2012.

When I watched this show back in the Seventies, I wished I could've had such a really cool job! But back then, what teenaged boy DIDN'T want to be Hugh O' Brien, Tony Franciosa, or even Doug McClure?

I used to record tons of television and movie music onto cassette during the 70's and 80's. I have about 25 cassette tapes full of themes that never got released any other way (BRONK being one of my personal favorites, as well as many versions of AIRWOLF, LEGMEN, STINGRAY, etc....). One of the reasons I MUST always have a cassette tape player in my music set-up.

OMG man, thank you You're like the kid who recorded the audio of the "lost" Dark Shadows episode! Very different feel from the episode version. Wow, it's one in a million that you recorded & hung onto it!

I had a similar experience: a Canadian radio station (I think it was CFRB-AM in Toronto) played a version of the SEARCH theme (but, like this one, not the broadcast version, and clearly done by another band) way back in the early 1970s. I wrote a paper-mail letter to the radio station asking what record it was from — but I never got a reply back. Thank you for posting this!

Since you found it on BBC radio, I'd be inclined to blame Geoff Love, he did a lot of recordings of popular TV themes.
