May I suggest in videos like this a heavy use of maps on screen? It makes it hard to follow the advances strategies etc without visual aid like that

Hey everyone! Scriptwriter Ben here, I hope you enjoyed today's video! If you'd like to learn more about Bastogne, particularly the events of the climatic battle there, I highly recommend reading "Those Who Hold Bastogne" by Peter Schrijvers. Thanks for watching and see you next time!

I am currently serving in the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell where there is a street named after Bastogne.

Bastogne received a great deal of media attention because in early December 1944 it was a rest and recreation area for many war correspondents.

I was there like over a decade ago now, among all the battle of the bulge stuff there is also a tank garage that has some WW2 stuff, very cool.

Definitely well known, but always a bit sad that the rest of the forces that fought there are overlooked they way are - including the civilians that had become trapped there also.

🎵Crack of the lightning splitting the ground
Thunder is sounding, artillery pounding
Wrath of the Nazis cast on Bastogne
Facing their forces alone
Alone🎵

I first visited Bastogne in 1965. Belgium was recovering. Across the border in Germany, poverty was still deep. It would take another 20 years for Germany to begin to look prosperous again near the Belgian border.

My Uncle Joe was in the Screaming Eagles at Bastogne, he always used to say that the thing that is rarely covered is the stench of war, the constant smell of rotting human or animal corpses which pervades all battlefields, thanks to the likes of him I have never had to actually experience this myself, good job Space Cowboy!

I always thought that Yorktown and the Alamo were better known sieges over the course of American history.

Just to be accurate, the Battle of Bastogne was not a siege.
