I live on the Gulf Coast. For about 4-6 months of the year, when I exercise outside, I am exercising IN a sauna!

Sitting in the sauna after a good workout is like the cherry on top that just makes that post workout feeling so much better. Keeps the body burning for that much longer, and cycles them fluids.

I know I feel a lot better post workout after a really hot and steamy shower. Muscles aren't tight, breathing is better, and I just feel...not refreshed, but just better and relaxed. Definitely cleans out the sinuses breathing in all that water vapor. When my family and I get done cutting wood in the spring/summer when it's hot as shit outside and we've been cutting for 6 hours, a hot shower is always my go to while theirs is a cold shower. I can't not take a hot shower even if it's over 100 degrees outside.

Mold is definitely an issue for people who run hot showers as well. Close that door and let your fan run for 30 minutes post showering. Wipe down surfaces that show a lot of moisture. Use vinegar and borax to kill mold spores and not bleach. Bleach doesn't do shit.

Edit: Wanted to say that this was very informative!

I'm from Finland, so (obviously) I go to sauna almost daily. Never tried infrared sauna, I have traditional finnish sauna in my apartment, electric one, but I like more wood burning saunas. The temperature I like is around 80-110C° and I try to be there 20-30 mins in one sitting, then cold shower and back to sauna for a while, and end the session with cold shower always. Couldn't live without sauna👌🏼

Thanks Mike for confirming what several other YouTubers have talked (you included) about regarding sauna before or after exercise. I was taking a sauna before my workout to warm up, but have switched to post workout.
The mold warning is greatly appreciated! My sauna is in a small spare bedroom and still takes so long to warm up that I keep the room tightly shut. Haven’t noted any mold yet, but will start opening the window post-sauna.

If I’ve worked out prior to my sauna, I no longer jump straight into an ice shower like I did before. I watched your video with Dr. James DiNicolantonio, author of The Salt Fix, and realized I was shutting down the benefits of my workout and blood flow by jumping straight into my cold shower. I still do that on my non-workout days though to trigger hormetic stress. Thanks for all the great content you put out Mike.

I just ordered from Tristan at HighTechHealth and mentioned your name. I can't wait to do this in addition to my DIY cold plunge. Healing from nerve damage and injuries... Arthritis and chronic muscle and joint issues. Thank you for all you do. Planning on a complete Niacin detox when it arrives.

I think sauna after exercise also decreases muscle tightness and soreness. May sound anecdotal but I just notice a big difference. I feel much better if I spend 15-20 min is sauna after a good workout

An excellent option is a steam generator for a shower cabin. They are cheap and don't require much space. Gets crazy hot.

Another great video. I would like to see one about the effect and better use of hot bath with epsom salt.

I have to thank you for this great content! I’m a menopausal physician, getting that belly fat (and female) I love how you back your content with good science and useful information. I’m going to start lifting heavy, and eat more protein, less carbs. Thank you!!! Oh! And we just bought a sauna.

Appreciate the info you’re providing on sauna use lately. I’ve recently invested in an infrared sauna and have been hydrating with a Apple Cider Vinegar water pre sauna session and noticed a deeper sweat. My logic was due to discovering how the body uses more energy to metabolize the acetic acid activating the ampk enzyme which targets fat for fuel.
I’m still in the early stages of this routine but wondered if ACV could some how enhance or contribute to sauna use?

20 yrs ago my sister and I would walk for an hour and then spend 1 hr in the sauna and honestly I felt amazing when I came out. My skin looked amazing.

Love your videos. I'm wondering if you could at some point explore doing a video on detoxing from Mold/Mycotoxins? It seems more and more common that many of us a struggling with health conditions caused by these toxins in our environment. I'm currently using sauna every other day as one form of detox alongside taking binders.
Would love to see a video on this at some point if it's of interest.
