🤔 What do you like to read? Do you read more from a 📕 book or a 📱 screen?

Interesting topic .
I consider that reading ebooks has advantages for the sake of learning a language .
But I agree on reading paper books is better for understanding something at a deep level .
Here is the vocabulary’s list:
1- attention span : the length a person is concentrated while doing something .
2- for the joy of it : basically doing something just for the pleasure of doing so, rather other benefits.
3- on the surface level : to read, learn or understand something in a superficial way.
4 - analogy : it’s a comparison of thing with similar features. For example the analogy of the human brain and a computer processor.
5- inferences : guesses or conclusions you get from the information already available .
6- skimming : is a way of reading, at which you read rapidly looking for specific words or to get a general idea rather than details .

Thanks BBC! I’m learning English using your didactic material for years 😊

Hi, there.😊 I read more from books and newspaper than a screen. As Georgie said, I also love the touch of paper, the smell of it and turning pages. Maybe I'm much more used to reading from paper than a screen. For me, reading from a screen feels like just skimming information on the surface level. I guess I might be an analogue type, not a digital one.😅
As always, thank you for your outstanding lesson.👍👏

Interesting comments on how we read. I'm a slow reader, but I love books. No electronic devices in my life, but the computer I am writing this comment on. No comparison reading paper books, and if it's mine, growing old with me. Other times I borrow from the library. Many thanks to you BBC teachers.

The question from today has to be wrong. 100.000 words a day per average person? This is more or less 300 pages a day. I don't think an average person read that much.

Here is a big advantage to reading books: many of them were written before the internet, and consequently, there was a higher standard of writing in order to be published. Today, anyone can put something on a screen. There are many errors in syntax, word choice, spelling...there is a long list of writing failures today. Read the classics of English literature from UK and American authors, and you will have a far greater understanding of the language. For example, I am learning French and Spanish, and my learning will include many books from the last century in order to give me additional perspective about the cultures and the words the authors chose to use.

I think reading, either with a physical book or with a kindle/on screens, is equally great. It's important to find what suits you and your situation. For example, when I really need to read a book and I don't want to wait for its delivery, I opt for the kindle version. It just works beautifully. I used to be torn over this dilemma, but now it's no longer an issue for me.
