I tried 6 new cameras in 2024: the Fujifilm X100VI, the Fujifilm X-M5, the Ricoh GR IIIx HDF, the Ricoh GR III HDF, the Nikon ZF, and the new to my kit Fujifilm X70. I was surprised which one ended up being my favorite..

What was your favorite camera in 2024?

My favourite this year was my X100V/VI - travelled a bunch with it, always had it with me, shot a wedding with it, it's just been a great little camera to have with me. I want to go back to using my promist filter back on my VI, I had it on my V for a couple years and loved the look - not sure why I got rid of it since I got my VI. I've been trying to stick to JPG only and it's really nice to not bother with editing my raw files.

Another great thing about this camera is that it doesn't look like a professional camera, and people don't bat an eye when you take pictures with it. Also, they let me take it into concerts, which has given me the chance to take some really cool pics.

3:27 "Wanting to do destructive decisions when I'm taking a photo" I've been trying to think of a way to describe my want for SOOC that has a finality to it like film as soon as you hit the shutter button and I could have said it better myself. Thank you!

When I had the Canon DSLR, and I had the 30D, 5D2, 5D3 and 5D4. Those cameras are 1 hand operation for me. I can adjust the focus, focus points, aperture, exposure, ISO, shutter speed, on/off all with 1 hand. It doesn't uses the now again popular (but backwards in terms of muscle memory and speed) 3 dials approach that Fuji popularised in their X-series.

Shooting 1 handed is seriously useful. Being able to set the focus point without looking at the camera at all is way useful.

Great cameras! I just picked up the XM5. I would love to see a video on best video settings for new creators or simply just documenting family.

I agree with this so much! I recently got the Fuji x100vi and after using my Ricoh for half a year feels big and clunky. I probably need more shooting time with it but your assessment about one handed operation is spot on especially with a toddler squirming around.

I've been following you for a long time and I love your style! Thanks for the video.

This video wad cool. It also highlighted for me the clear difference between 28mm and 40mm. Im a clear 28mm guy. For me its often not the artistic part of a photo, instead its the informations it delivers. Context and surrounding matters to me.

Thank you, mate. Happy new year!

I came back to GR after my GRII died of unknown failure. I've tried Coolpix A, then I shot my whole diploma with RX1, and then I understood it's time to come back. Picked up GRI, and immediately, my eye sharpened. I carry it everywhere, it's like a notebook of light. I still sometimes think about IIIx rather than III after spending that year with 35mm on full-frame Sony, but we'll see what the future holds.

If I remember in other video you said that you didn't like this camera because you struggle with the autofocus and now is your favorite? Did Ricoh improved the autofocus o what happened?

Reggie, How difficult is the LCD to use for framing in bright light? This limitation is the one reason I have resisted buying the Ricoh.

Bored to carry during long hikes the A7iv+bunch of lenses, i recently get the gr3x and nisi filters set.
Can now hike with a very lightweight pack !

My favorite camera is my Nikon ZF. It's fantastic. I also picked up a Fuji X100VI, and I honestly don't know if I'm loving it. The GRIII seems like it'd be a better partner to my ZF.

This year I wanted the GR iii, I wanted the x100vi and I wanted the Zf. Ended up going for a Zf simply because it's the most versatile and capable out of the 3 but I was very close to getting the GR iii instead. I will def be getting one later - as much as I love my Zf it's nowhere near as compact and I don't see myself carrying it around as much. I had the first GR and I had with me in my pocket at all times. That said, I'm absolutely in love with my new Nikon camera.

I'm planning on getting the HDF early next year but can't decide if I should go with the 3 or 3X

The GR III is my favorite camera. I've had the X100VI for a couple of months and while that camera is amazing, I prefer the wider focal length and smaller form factor of the Ricoh. I love being able to slip it into any pocket and go about my day. I've captured some of my favorite photos with it even though I've had "better" cameras like the Sony A7IV with G Master lenses, the previous Fuji X100V, and now the X100VI.

Great video btw.

Hi, I’m planning my honeymoon to Italy, and I’m considering the GR3x and GR3. I’ve watched your videos, so I know the GR3x is a bit wider and you prefer the GR3. Italy has so many attractions that would benefit from a wide lens, so I’m leaning toward that. At the same time, I’d like to take photos of my fiancé. Portraits with backgrounds would work well with the 28mm, but I also want some close-up shots.

It’s been weeks, and I still can’t decide. Some people suggest getting the GR3x and using my iPhone for wider shots, while others recommend the GR3 and cropping portraits later. If you could share what you would consider or buy, it might give me the nudge I need to make a final decision. Thanks so much!

Awesome video and absolutely beautiful photos! I have a GR IIIx, but have been thinking more and more of trading it in for the HDF. It'd be an expensive and kind of silly trade, but I really think it might make sense for me, and your pictures are incredibly persuasive.
