Just recently bought a house built in the 60s. It had carpet in the kitchen and bathroom and hardwood everywhere else!! How that ever became a thing is beyond me!!

I work at Lowes flooring department and I am a real estate agent. I am familiar with most of this information. EVERYTHING you said I totally agree with which intuitively makes me presume the knowledge I gained from this in depth live show is also as correct relative to the knowledge professionals currently have. I'm sure in 2040 we will look back and think this is crazy technology to use. I digress this is incredibly valuable thank you so much. You and your team help grow our passion for turning a house to a home. Pretty legendary if you think about it.

I was hoping I'd have my question answered about basement concrete underlayment for LVP, but I understand that there were a lot of questions. I've been looking at different stuff like DMX 1-Step, Smartcore Soft and Sound, or just 6 mil plastic. Even though it's a split level from 1970, we've never had moisture issues over the years we lived there outside of the recent freak storm that overwhelmed the exterior drainage and came in through the garage - causing the need to replace the carpet that had been in there.

From what I've picked up recently, I think the included underlayment on virtually all LVP now is going to be a sufficient since there was never an issue with the carpet or padding previously. I'm probably just going to get rugs (with padding) to stop it from being an echo chamber and cold. Now I just have to figure out how to get all the glue off from the old tack strips...

Btw thanks for an awesome stream and all your content. You're the best on YT. Please do a Live Q&A that is geared towards all things basement or all things soundproofing :)

Oh Goodness. I had to replace my floor in a Jim Walter Home from the 60's because of mold. It was caused from a plumbing renovation in 1997 that failed to secure the drain pipe for the shower in my front bathroom. Never knew it was leaking right onto the ground! Anyway, went with a luxury vinyl after replacing the joints and beams and subfloor. Cost me over $35 thousand dollars. A year after installation, the flooring is popping up. Feels like air under the floor. How can this be. I am so angry.

I went with glue down vinyl plank for my basement laundry room and gym to give the same look as LVP without the issues of water seepage, or weights/equipment damaging the click type planks. It was installed over top of a leveling material.

Jeff love your home renovision videos. What is my best choice in 2023 to replace an 15 year old luxury vinyl sheet flooring area in my home about 400 sq ft. I love the continuation of the sheet providing absolute waterproof and easy to clean. Somehow I dont like the hair line gap between the planks or tiles. We keep pets and a large 80 gallon aquarium and each time the water change is a mess and we are grateful to this vinyl flooring which still helps us to keep up with our indoor garden and aquarium. Now the problem is the top layer is showing wear and yellowing. Can you make a video to folks like us what the alternative is not the trend?

I have an unheated out building with a plywood floor in Alberta. What type of flooring would you recommend for the wild temperature fluctuations summer to winter? Would vinyl plank expand/contract too much? It previously had carpet and definitely do not want that. Thanks for all your great videos!

I need to raise one room floor 3 inches to level it with the rest of the house floor, then put tile floor or engineered wood. Rather than concrete i want to use wood to raise it. Any comment on the correct way of raising the floor or material?

This would have been the perfect live for me to catch and call in on! I appreciate the replay though, I definitely did get some value out of it. I’m right smack in the middle with renovating a room and pulling my hair out with all the flooring options and my situation.
After that I want to start on the rest of the house and everything kind of hinges on what I do in this room 🤦🏻‍♂️

What are your thoughts on cork flooring for a kitchen? We have tile, but it is not very comfortable.

What floor do you recommend in living room, common areas and study room for houses with kids.. My kid is having dust allergy so carpet is not an option.. Hardwood v/s LVP v/s Engineered Wood. This is for new house which is built in Dallas, Texas

How do you feel about using roughcut oak and ripping straight edges on it screwing it down then sanding, staining then adding a clear coat. Or is there a one step solution for the stain and clear that is better?

is it best to have darker or lighter wood flooring in single story home?

I’m an European and grew up in a large flat with terrazzo floors everywhere but the bathrooms, where there is porcelain tile. I now live in SE Virginia and got rid of the nasty carpet in my house when we bought it 23 years ago due to allergies and because I dislike it so much, and installed 3/4 in. solid cherry floors in bedrooms and hallway upstairs, marble in bathrooms and porcelain tile all over the downstairs. I will be moving soon to a post-divorce home and I’m dreading what I’ll find. I might have to get rid of all carpet (old or new), cover wood floors with a thick coat of polyurethane or get rid of those horrible vinyl planks that seem to be so popular now. Tile will be too expensive and wood will not stand aging pets and their accidents. The best solution seems to be a good quality sheet vinyl all over, great for sweeping, vacuuming and mopping. We must use the materials that make our life easier and with the least maintenance.
